Stop trying to overdeliver!
One thing that managers and leaders dislike the most are teams and individuals that do not deliver. It makes them look bad, and as a result, their reputation suffers.
Remember, that it is better to deliver 80% finished product than to not deliver at all. With 80% the manager can speak to progress; she can show that work has been done. Maybe even get first feedback from her superior. With 80% both you and your manager are the winners.
So, do not worry if your product is only part finished. Be open and honest about it and share what you have done. Detail out the next steps and timeline for completion. Make sure you do follow up though.
